2024-25 with Ex Nihilo!

Ex Nihilo Friends,

We had a great opening night. Thank you all for your participation, and thank you again to Mrs. Hodge for dinner for 80!

Time sensitive reminder: For students interested in attending the October 10th-11th tournament, hosted by NIHD in Redlands, CA — tournament registration opens tomorrow, Sept 11th, at 12pm PST (many tournaments fill to capacity at registration open, sometimes within minutes. Avoid the waitlist by registering at 12pm). We will be having a “Tournament-How-To” class in the coming weeks for interested new and returning families. Upcoming Stoa tournaments are listed at https://stoahub.org/calendar

A few administrative items for the year ahead:
New Families – We welcome you to return this month with no commitment. Feel free to come with no pressure — listen along, ask questions, practice speaking, observe different event coaching rooms, etc, and see how our club might fit as a part of your homeschool year. Join us on exnihilo-club.slack channel #mondaydinner, or email info@nihilo.club, to RSVP your family for our 5:15pm dinner ($3/person, Greek chicken & salad next week). Club night schedule will begin at 6pm.

Registration – Club registration form and fees are both due Oct 1st. Annual family fees: $100 for first student, $50 for 2nd student, $25 for 3rd student (family cap of $175 total). Don’t forget to apply your $50 discount for each of your participating students who attended a summer 2024 speech/debate camp!

Weekly Scheduling – Each week we will have the *giant white board* prepped with our available classrooms, awaiting parent and student sign-ups! Parents, please prioritize signing up when you first arrive. After you have signed up to help coach (or observe) in a room, then your students may sign up to receive coaching or to observe. All club members present will be annotated on the board, and are expected to remain in those assigned rooms. We do not offer unsupervised study hall or prep time. Children who are not participating in club activities must remain with their parent. A minimum of two adults must be present in each room.

Info Flyer – XNIL Information flyer 2024-25  – Quick details pertaining to club and league requirements, basic expectations, and club dues and schedule.

Handbook – XNIL Club Handbook 2024-25  – Detailed information explaining club structure and bylaws, as well as club, tournament, and coaching protocols. This is a helpful guide for new and returning families. Requires website login access. Contact if unable to view and I will reconnect you.

Questions? Email us at info@nihilo.club, or join us at exnihilo-club.slack.com. (Students, see Hannah or Mr. Lee for Google Chat invite.)

We look forward to seeing you next week,
