We had a very enjoyable and successful round robin last night! Many thanks to all who worked to help make it happen. Special thanks to everyone for being punctual to help the event run smoothly, and engaging to make a warm and welcoming environment for all. Multiple families happily visited just to watch and learn, and we had over 40 students compete. Well done, all! If you took photos, we’d love to add them to our collection for end of year slideshow — email them to info@nihilo.club, or add them to slack channel #photos.
Next up, several of our club members are traveling to Redlands, CA in just over a week to compete or volunteer with one of two tournaments being held there, Dec 8-10. On Monday we will send them off with prayer before regular club events.
Our tournament team has been piecing together the necessary arrangements for hosting the Point Loma Classic at PLNU. If you’re interested in learning more about tournament preparations, that team meets before club night each Monday, from 5-6pm. Contact Steve Hosmer, our tournament director, for additional information. Mark your calendar for that Jan 5-7 weekend – we’ll work together as a club to run every aspect of the tournament, and we’ll need your help. We have nearly 300 students registered already! Volunteer positions are available, and we’ll be discussing in detail PLC job prospects at this Monday’s club meeting.
Looking to compete at Point Loma? You’re not too late, if you hurry! While our Point Loma Classic tournament registration is wrapping up, there are still some events with space open. Registration closes Dec 4th, and our script submission window will then run from December 5-19. We will not be accepting script submissions or re-submissions after Dec 19th. If you have questions about the script approval process, please see Sue Lee.
Just joining in and wondering what are your best next steps? Welcome! The spring holds multiple nearby tournaments to set your sights on if you’re looking to compete locally, later on in the year. There are two tournaments in Chula Vista this spring: Feb 8-10 and Mar 29-Apr1. They will both offer all speech as well as all debate events, and would be a great goal for new students just getting started. Talk to any parent at club night, and we’d be happy to direct you to tools and resources for getting your student started with speechwriting and/or debate prep.

Not on Slack? We use that app as the basis for general club communication – cancellations, updates, reminders, etc – and a way for anyone to easily ask questions. Email Jessica Halfpap for help connecting there: jlhalfpap@gmail.com or info@nihilo.club.
See you Monday!
